Replacing an Aqua One 102c Ceramic Cartridge
The Aqua one 102c ceramic cartridge provides a home to essential nitrifying bacteria in your aquarium, which helps to keep bad bacteria at bay. It's essential to the overall wellbeing of your aquarium livestock and should be replaced every 16 weeks. If your aquarium is also fitted with a 1c Carbon and Wool cartridge, it's best to replace this every 4 to 6 weeks, however the two cartridges shouldn't really be changed at the same time.
Aquarium Maintenance Made Easy...
With their slot-in filter cartridges, it's really easy to maintain your new Aqua One Betta or Xpression aquarium. Simply follow the Aqua One Betta Mono, Betta Duo / Trio or Xpression Series instructions for best results.
As you'd expect, the ceramic cartridge contains ceramic pieces provide an ideal surface for benificial nitrifying bacteria to grow. Water always attempts to take the easiest path through a filter so the ceramic tray not only neatly contains the ceramic pieces but also ensures that water is evenly distributed throughout the cartridge making the most efficient use of the available filter area. Water then leaves the cartridge in an even, efficient manner.
Beneficial Bacteria
The Aqua One 102c ceramic cartridges are designed to grow the beneficial, nitrifying bacteria so often sought after by the fish keeper. Without this cartridge, it is easy for bad bacteria to flourish, thereby risking the health of your aquarium inhabitants
102c cartridges will usually last the full 16 weeks in between changes but it's worth checking on their performance every month. Just slide out the filter cartridge and check it's condition. Never wash the cartridge under the tap as this will kill off the essential bacteria. If the 102C Ceramic Cartridge looks clogged up, it can be rinsed in a little aquarium water.
Change every 16 weeks
While the 102c ceramic cartridge needs changing every 16 weeks, the 1c Carbon & Wool cartridge should be replaced every 6 weeks. Again, never be tempted to rinse these items under a tap. If clogged use a little aquarium water, or replace as necessary.
